Convenient On-Site Testing
At Stoney Trail Veterinary Clinic, our in-house laboratory can provide a detailed look at the internal health of your dog, cat, or small mammal. These tests allow us to accurately assess their organ function, detect any underlying health conditions and develop personalized treatment plans for their well-being.
We can perform diagnostic blood, urine and fecal tests on-site. These tests can detect deadly heartworm and tick-borne diseases and help the veterinarian choose the best course of care for your companion.
Our diagnostic lab is on-site, which allows us to quickly analyze test results and provide a timely diagnosis. Rapid results mean your furry friend can get the treatments they need the same day, which can lead to better outcomes for your pet's overall health and happiness.
Our Diagnostic Services
- Radiography (Digital X-rays)
Radiography is safe, painless, and non-invasive. It uses only very low doses of radiation. Because of this, even pregnant females and very young pets can undergo this procedure.
Radiographs can be used to evaluate bones and organs and diagnose conditions including broken bones, chronic arthritis, bladder stones, spinal cord diseases, and some tumours.
- Digital Dental X-rays
If your cat or dog has periodontal disease, much of the damage occurs beneath the gum line, where it is difficult to see. With dental X-rays, our team can examine the roots, bones, and internal anatomy of your cat or dog's teeth.
The risk of radiation exposure for your pet with digital dental X-rays is significantly lower than with traditional X-ray technology.
- Cold Lasers
Cold laser therapy is a non-invasive treatment that uses low-level laser light to stimulate healing in cats and dogs. It can help alleviate pain, reduce inflammation, and promote tissue repair.
It can be particularly beneficial for pets with arthritis, wounds, or musculoskeletal conditions. Additionally, it can enhance post-surgical recovery and improve overall mobility in pets.
- ECG
If your veterinarian performs a physical examination and suspects your cat or dog has a heart condition, they usually take chest X-rays and an electrocardiogram (ECG).
This procedure is simple and quick. It reveals information that could be crucial to your cat or dog's diagnosis. In other cases, a cardiac ultrasound may be required to identify problems in the heart chambers.
- Bloodwork
We can run a number of common and targeted blood tests at our veterinary lab in Calgary to help us determine your cat or dog’s health and diagnose illness.
The most common veterinary blood tests we perform are CBC (complete blood count), white blood count, hemoglobin and MCHC (mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration), hematocrit, platelets, eosinophils, and blood serum profiles.
- Urinalysis
Urinalysis is a critical diagnostic test that provides your veterinarian with vital information about the physical and chemical properties of your dog or cat’s urine.
Urinalysis is primarily used to assess the health of your pet’s kidneys and urinary tract system, but it can also be useful in detecting issues in other organ systems and is critical in diagnosing metabolic diseases such as diabetes.
- Fecal Exams
A fecal exam is a microscopic examination of your pet's feces that can be performed at our in-house veterinary lab in Calgary.
The ultimate goal of a fecal exam is to detect and treat any GI parasites that may be endangering your pet's, or your family's, health. Fecals allow your veterinarian to determine whether your dog or cat has intestinal parasites such as roundworms or hookworms.
In-House Veterinary Pharmacy
After we diagnose your dog, cat or small mammal's condition, your veterinarian can prescribe and supply medications to help resolve or manage their issue.
You can let us know when you would like to pick up your pet's prescription. When you arrive, we can have it ready and waiting for you.
